A New Platform to Report Hate Crime in the Western Balkans & Türkiye

February 2, 2024

A New Tool to Act Against Hate Crime

Several IGLYO Member Organisations have just launched a New Platform to Report Hate Crimes and Discrimination in the Western Balkans and Türkiye.

Under the coordination of ERA — LGBTI Equal Rights Association, 18 civil society organisations, among which 8 IGLYO Members, have just launched the "You are Heard" platform, a safe and accessible online space for LGBTQI people in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Slovenia, and Türkiye to report cases of discrimination, harassment, or violence.

Any LGBTQI person based in this area who has suffered discrimination or a hate incident can report it on the platform in English or any language of the region, with the option of remaining anonymous. You can then choose to be contacted or not.

“By reporting, you take the first step towards protecting yourself and holding the perpetrator accountable. You provide important information to NGOs and relevant institutions with the right legal and institutional mechanisms to address your issue,” say the partners.

We’re extremely proud of our Members and the other partners for bringing this crucial platform to life. We hope this new tool will help our communities, in particular us LGBTQI young people, to act against hate crime and discrimination, and build a brighter future for us all.

You can access the platform on https://you-are-heard.org.

IGLYO Members partnering in this project include Aleanca LGBTI, kolekTIRV, Spektra, Queer Montenegro, ŠKUC Magnus, Legebitra, KAOS GL, and Trans Mreža Balkan.

Other project partners include LGBTI ERA, Stonewall, Tuzla Open Center, LGBT Center Split, CSGD, Juventas, Coalition Margins, Helsinki Committee for Human Rights, LGBTI Support Centre, and Da Se Zna!.
