To LGBTQ youth and their families: You are not alone

On the occasion of the 17th Annual Conference of ILGA-Europe, titled Family Matters: Reaching Out to Hearts and Minds, IGLYO affirms its support for all LGBTQ young people and their families. IGLYO consulted its network of activists concerning their experience of challenges and support within their families.

Following a workshop based on that consultation, IGLYO voices our support for LGBTQ young people discussing their sexual orientation and gender identity with their families. We advocate for inclusive dialogue on the topic of identity. We encourage family members to avoid assumptions and judgements, allow for self-definition, and to ask questions. Everyone should be able to seek accurate information about sexual orientation and gender identity and expression.

For LGBTQ young people and their families, we want to remind you: you are not alone. Let’s continue the conversations: conversations among parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents, cousins, friends, and other loved ones. And let’s work towards a better world for everyone, regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity.
