Stakeholder Learning Network Meeting on Norm Criticism – equality

Events

IGLYO is extending an invitation to participate in a learning meeting targeted at organisations and networks that work in the field of equality. The meeting is kindly supported by The European Commission Directorate-General Justice.

IGLYO is an international membership-based umbrella organisation that aims to empower and enable its members to ensure representation of LGBTQ youth and student issues and it is run by young people and for young people. IGLYO’s approach promotes cooperation and joint strategies, and often advocates on behalf of Members to international bodies, institutions and other organisations.

The learning meeting will address the theme of norm criticism. Norm-criticism is a very useful tool for understanding and beginning to challenge power structures in society, which result in the marginalization of groups within society. Our organisations aim to challenge and improve the current status of our constituencies, which are, typically, marginalized groups. The meeting will try to create a learning space in which our organisations can reflect on how norm-critical approaches can be used to achieve a better inclusion of these groups in society.

The meeting will:

–       lead participants through an analysis of their organization’s privileges and the way norms influence their work,

–       encourage participants to think creatively and plan around adopting norm-criticism in their work and organizations, in order to be more socially inclusive,

–       facilitate an exchange of ideas and good practices, and

–       identify areas and opportunities for longer term collaboration in the field of norm criticism and social inclusion of marginalized groups.

We would like to welcome any ideas, suggestions or recommendations you may have regarding the content of this meeting. We are keen of having a time that is pleasant and constructive for all of us.  Therefore please do not hesitate to send our way your thoughts or ideas about the content of the meeting.

The meeting will take place on Wednesday 25 March, in Brussels, Belgium, on 10 Rue de l’Industrie, area code 1000, starting at 10 o’clock. IGLYO will provide lunch and refreshments.

Please RSVP by 10 March with the name and the position of the person who will attend the meeting by kindly filling in the Registration Form here.
