IGLYO Statement on Belgrade EuroPride Cancellation

Pride cannot be cancelled!

EuroPride is a pan-European International event dedicated to LGBTQI Pride running since 1992. This year’s EuroPride will take place in Belgrade, Serbia hosted by Belgrade Pride from 12-17 September 2022.

IGLYO was shocked and appalled to learn about the comments made on August 27th by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, where he claimed that EuroPride is to be cancelled, stating that Serbia is facing other issues and “cannot do it all at the same moment”. We condemn this reasoning and the supposed “cancellation” of EuroPride. We would like to remind President Vučić that people have the right to freedom of assembly, and Pride events are covered under this right.

We stand with the organisers of EuroPride 2022 and the entire LGBTQI community in Serbia. Pride cannot be cancelled; it couldn’t be cancelled in 1970 and it cannot be cancelled in 2022. We send our solidarity to the Western Balkans region and hope for a happy and peaceful EuroPride in 2022.
