A woman pushing the office door illegally entered the office and presenting herself as an employee of Yerevan Municipality, requested the president of the NGO L. Martirosyan to show the documents of the NGO. L. Martirosyan presented the leasing contract, during which the mentioned woman, requested to L. Martirosyan to collect belongings and move the office to another place, otherwise, she will close the office. During this period, an unknown man physically harmed the organisation’s beneficiary at the entrance of the office and hit the head of the organisation, L. Martirosyan.
On the same day, L Martirosyan reported the case to the Police Department of Arabkir, requesting to initiate a criminal case.
The woman, who presented herself as an employee of Yerevan Municipality is Naira Nahapetyan, a member of Yerevan City Council, from the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) https://www.yerevan.am/am/factions/.
As a result of Yerevan Council Member N. Nahapetyan’s abuse of power
– the beneficiary of the organisation received bodily injury;
– the president of the organisation has been subjected to psychological pressure;
– the right of ownership has been violated;
– the normal operation of the organisation has been violated.
This incident is an example of that public officials can easily abuse their power and may illegally enter the territory of another person and make threats.
The behaviour of this public official is inadmissible and condemnable and it is unacceptable when persons with this kind of behaviour holds state positions and make decisions on behalf of the citizens of the Republic of Armenia.
“Right Side” Human Rights Defender NGO condemns the behaviour of Naira Nahapetyan, who holds a state position and at the same time call for the law enforcement bodies to be held liable for the fair investigation.
