COVID-19 Survival Guide: Dealing with Stress and Anxiety During Lockdown

LGBTQI, IGLYO

It’s totally normal to feel stressed out and anxious during this time. This is a place in time where we’ve never been before and there are a lot of unanswered questions about the future and what’s going to happen to the world. The best you can do during this time is to make sure you are following guidelines, not exposing yourself to the virus and doing what you can to remain safe. This isn’t going to last forever and there will be a time where this virus won’t be the threat it is today, and we will be able to resume some form of normality; whether that’s a new normal or not.

It’s important to occupy yourself during this time and to have a think about what you can do to pass the time. This can mean tending to hobbies like arts and crafts, reading books, playing video games, doing some gardening, cooking, baking or anything that keeps your mind busy. This is also a great time to catch up with some friends you’ve not been in touch with and check how they are. If you require some more support, there are many therapists and support services available online that can also help you. So don’t feel like you’re alone in this; there are always people out there that can and will support you.

The COVID-19 Survival Guide is a project in collaboration with Fox and Owl, the creators of The Trans Teen Survival Guide, on what it means to be a young trans person and how to deal with topics such as gender dysphoria, hormone blockers, surgery and more. They also run My Genderation, a film project that celebrates trans lives and trans experiences.
