LGBTQI youth in the Council of Europe region hails from diverse ethnic, racial, and religious backgrounds. IGLYO is aware of the intertwined realities of racism, LGBTQI-phobia, sexism, classism, ableism, and ageism that are part of the lived experiences of LGBTQI youth of colour. For that reason, IGLYO is building up an Anti-Racism Task Force, made up of 4 LGBTQI young people who identify as Black, Indigenous, a person of colour, Roma, Sinti, or a member of racialised groups, Indigenous communities, minority faiths and ethnic minorities.

In 2019, IGLYO’s General Assembly unanimously passed a resolution to create an Anti-Racism Task Force. This resolution represents the culmination of years of discussions and efforts within IGLYO regarding the most effective integration of anti-racism within its structure and activities. In 2020, the first Anti-Racism Task Force was set up, made up of youth volunteers from our membership and chaired by an IGLYO Board Member. IGLYO is now looking forward to seeing a new Anti-Racism Task Force forming in 2022 that will work on developing and implementing the recommendations approved in 2021.
Applicants willing to join the Anti-Racism Task Force must meet the following criteria:
Individuals who meet the above criteria and are from underrepresented groups and communities such as young women, trans youth (including non-binary), intersex youth, refugees/migrants, sex workers, disabled youth (including neurodivergent youth), young people living with HIV, and fat young people will be prioritised during the selection process. Prior experience with anti-racist activism or LGBTQI-activism is not required, and membership or affiliation to an IGLYO member organisation is also not mandatory.
This Anti-Racism Task Force represents an opening to participate in shaping the future of LGBTQI youth activism in Europe and beyond. The members of the Task Force will have the opportunity to gain (practical) insight and an in-depth understanding of European-level advocacy. Members of the Anti-Racism Task Force will observe and study the work of IGLYO, an international network of LGBTQI youth organisations and associations. The Task Force will be a creative and experimental space for developing ideas and institutionalising strategies for anti-racist advocacy and decolonial perspectives, including concrete implementation steps and ongoing monitoring in 2022-2025.
IGLYO will maintain the Task Force as an ongoing advice and monitoring system. Task Force members will also have access to IGLYO’s training resources, and meaningfully connect with other members and partners of the network.
The Anti-Racism Task Force members will participate in three half-day online meetings. They will also be able to participate in one physical meeting (with travel and accommodation covered by IGLYO), although the in-person meeting is not mandatory.
The work of Anti-Racism Task Force members is compensated with 800 EUR for attending the 3 online sessions in 2022. The Task Force will also have the possibility to attend 1 physical meeting (with travel and accommodation covered by IGLYO).
The application process consists of two selection rounds: An application round and an interview round.
The first round consists of a written or audio/video piece in which you should let us know why you would like to join the Anti-Racism Task Force, and what skills and knowledge you will bring. Tell us about your perspective on anti-racism and decolonising LGBTQI youth activism. Don’t forget to tell us about your background as a person who experiences racism. As the working language of the Advocacy Working Group will be English (speaking and writing), your application material should be in English as well.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an online interview with IGLYO. The interview invitations will be sent on 29 April 2022 and the interviews will take place in the week of 9 May 2022.
