IGLYO was created in 1984 as a reaction to the need for better co-operation among regional, local or national LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender) youth and student organisations. It has been gradually growing since, having member organisations in almost every European country today. In order to build a stronger LGBT youth network, we are inviting your organisation to become a member and take part in the work of IGLYO.
IGLYO is open to any youth or student group which is either autonomous or an integral part of another organisation and which consists mainly of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth. IGLYO defines youth as under the age of 27. Actual members are youth groups that deal with coming-out, social groups for young LGBT people, political and activist groups, local, regional and national networks or organisations for LGBT youth. This is inaccurate since we deal with any kind of LGBT organisation not primarily youth ones.
You are eligible for full membership if your group/organisation:
Is an independent organisation or an integral part of another organisation;
Comprises mainly of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth;
Have a minimum of ten members;
Accept the IGLYO statutes, the Universal Human Rights Convention (United Nations 1948) as well as the European Human Rights Convention (Rome 1953).
If you dont fit with the above, dont worry. You can have an associate membership which is open to every organisation which:
Is not eligible for full membership;
Has a designated lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender youth for its contact person;
Accepts the IGLYO statutes, the Universal Human Rights Convention (United Nations 1948) as well as the European Human Rights Convention (Rome 1953).

One of the most valuable benefits of membership is the opportunity to meet other LGBT at activities organised by IGLYO throughout the year. Whether youre looking to exchange ideas, build project initiatives or find peers in your field, IGLYO connections have proved invaluable for many of our members. IGLYO members have priority when applying for IGLYO conferences and events. They can subscribe to the IGLYO members discussion group, where you can exchange information with other LGBT youth organisations from all around Europe . Member organisations can also propose candidates for the IGLYO Executive Board and to the Steering Teams.

IGLYO members will receive any publications/material, that are developed through the course of the year. As a member, your organisation will have access to an online library relating to LGBT issues. This online database will help you find the information you need.
lobbying
IGLYO is a full member of the European Youth Forum, through which it has directly access to policy making bodies in the Council of Europe, as well it can effectively lobby for LGBT youth issues in the European Commission and the United Nations;
IGLYO actively participates in Human Rights conferences regarding young people issues organised by bodies such as Council of Europe, Salto, Euromed, etc.
IGLYO is observer member of ESIB (the National Unions of Students in Europe) and holds close contact with OBESSU (Organising Bureau for European Student Unions), in which it lobbies for the inclusion of LGBT issues in member organisation's curricula;
IGLYO has regular contact with ILGA-Europe, with which it exchanges information and where possible lobbies together for common goals;
IGLYO has close contacts with the Intergroup of LGBT rights in the European Parliament, in which it tries to table Youth issues;
Furthermore IGLYO has a network with numerous human rights organisations and political figures enabling IGLYO to actively distribute information, promote LGBT young people's rights and exchange best practices.
Members of IGLYO are also encouraged to contribute as much as possible to the IGLYO Network by these actions:
Appoint a person responsible for international affairs in your organisation;
Tell us about your organisation's examples of good (and bad) practice, and especially of any experiences, information, or knowledge which would prove useful to other IGLYO member organisations;
Provide news stories on developments in your country for publication in the IGLYO newsletter and on the web site;
Support the development of IGLYO regional structures in your region;
Consider hosting an IGLYO conference; offer to run work-shops on subjects where your organisation has particular experience or skills;
If you have a website, link it to www.iglyo.com - and tell us your web site address, so we can reciprocate the favour!

MEMBERSHIP FEE
The membership fee for 2005/2006 was fixed to 30 euro for all organisations, irrespective of where they are coming from. If your group would like to become a member but cannot afford this fee, please ask for a fee waiver by writing a motivated request and send it to our office.
