Fabio Saccà's farewell speech...
8th December 2008 - GMM General Meeting of Members - Malaga (Spain)
Webteam (17/03/2008)
It's always hard to find words when a good show comes to its end; when the curtain falls, the lights are fading and we performers are stepping back to the backstage.
Being at this moment causes mixed feelings: you feel accomplished for all the many outcomes achieved; released from the responsibility; sad because there won't be more great shows as this for you; and a little jealous for the next who will step on this stage after you.
It's hard to find good words to say goodbye to people that have been a significant part of your life. It's hard to recall all the many moments of thi show and the way you have changed from where it started.
There will be hugs, hands shaken, laughters, even tears afterwards. But when a show comes to its end, the good thing to do is maybe leaving the stage with a smile; and a bow; and a thank you.
I'd like to thank the fellows which have joined me in this path. Bjorn, Darren, Bruno, Lucy: you have been an inspiring example of professionalism and dedication I won't forget. Same as for the former Board members: Maxence, Beverley, Ruth, Jasna, Dennis...
There are then people which are most of the time in the backstage but not less important... I want to thank my team, the Communication Team: Alon, Colette, José. I have to say that passion is nothing without discipline and you showed your worth and your best during these years. Am proud of you.
Finally... before the lights go down, I'd love to send my best wishes and compliments to the new elected Board. And a reccomendation.
As many said this space, this work we do, this passion we share is a priviledge. Don't miss the contact with the many young and students who do not have the priviledge to be active citizens, to stand for their right, to serve as volunteers in an NGO...
What you've become doesn't make you invulnerable. There will be times in which you may face the burden of this job and the consequences of Social Exclusion, not less than the ones for which we're struggling for: maybe you'd be in the need to find a job and make up with your life; you'd have to stand the load of your sudies, to suffer discrimination yourselves, to miss the resources for living...
For this reason be always a team, be supportive, be open, be hones with each other. This is a way to keep IGLYO sustainable, and the meaning of sharing the responsibility you have in this organisation.
So... keep on lobbying for our rights, become even more professional, keep on learning, growing, having fun, making love, spreading love.
YOU MUST BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE IN THE WORLD!
