Whilst Europe is becoming increasingly concerned on the situation in Poland, the government continues spreading its homophobic attitudes. After the government in October took a discriminatory decission by rejecting an EVS application from our member organisation KPH, the vice-minister of Education, Mirosław Orzechowski, said:

"We want a school without lies – such as the theory of evolution, soulless zygotes... We will also manage without tolerance."

The All Different All Equal campaign team opened a special section on its website about the situation in Poland. In the meantime IGLYO remains working with the Commission and the Council of Europe to take further actions.

Aleksandra Pezda: The crux of the argument between Sielatycki (former head of the Centre for Teacher's Development) with minister Giertych was in the discussion about tolerance. For instance – can you talk about homosexuality in schools. What do you think?

Teresa Łęcka:

Bad patterns should not be introduced into schools because it is the school's role to teach the distinction between good and evil, between beauty and ugliness. The school must prepare the young person for a debate about homosexuality, it must show the drama, emptiness and degeneration that the homosexual practices lead to. Young people do not have a well-grounded model of the world, proper patterns, this is why the teacher should point them towards what is good. The teacher should set the example himself, because children are apt to use the patterns they can observe. These patterns outline the limits of freedom for the young people.

Homosexuality constitutes "wrongful, bad patterns"?

Active homosexuality is a practice that is contrary to human nature. Polish school should prefer good patterns that lead to family relationships.

Would you allow to use the official manual of the European Council "Compass" in schools?

-Poland is a country of values, where the basic value is a nirmal family. Schools need manuals that support their activities when it comes to educating young people to form their own families and this is why one should take great care with choosing and disctributing manuals.
