IGLYO @ the Diversity Youth Forum

24th-29th October, Budapest
Bruno Selun (17/11/2006)

IGLYO attended the Diversity Youth Forum, which took place in the Council of Europe's Youth Centre, in Budapest. More than 100 participants took part, including governmental representatives, non-governmental activists, and representatives from the National Campaign Committees of the All Different – All Equal campaign.

The aim of the symposium was to "deepen and explore the concepts and issues related to diversity in Europe from the perspective of young people", in order to issue a Declaration to be followed by the Council of Europe.

I had the opportunity to represent IGLYO at the symposium, both presenting IGLYO's views on social exclusion of young LGBT people in Europe and acting as a resource-person in the Homophobia working group. We came up with a strong, intransigent view on the need for social inclusion and protection policies for LGBT young people, which has been integrated in the final Declaration, and will be presented to the Council of Europe and its member States.

During the event Michael Raphael, the All Different – All Equal campaign Director, strongly condemned homophobia and more particularly the Polish government's attitude towards the Compass [LINK TO PAGE OF THE STORY ON IGLYO.COM], LGBT organisations promoting LGBT rights [LINK AS WELL?], and non-heterosexuality in general. A project of a Week against Homophobia in Poland is on track, to which IGLYO will contribute.

Remember that the All Different – All Equal campaign welcomes your participation, you can easily get more information and see how on the campaign website, http://alldifferent-allequal.info/.
