WHAT is COMPASS?

Compass is the main tool for Human Rights Education designed by educational advisors of the Council of Europe
Fabio (03/07/2006)

The Council of Europe initiated its Human Rights Education Youth Programme in 2000 in order to bring human rights into the mainstream of youth work. The Programme has constituted a modest - but firm - attempt to make HRE accessible and attractive to those youth workers, youth leaders, trainers and young people who work with other young people, mostly in non-formal education. The programme aspires to bring human rights and HRE, defined as the promotion of equality in human dignity, closer to the reality of young people.

The Directorate of Youth and Sport in Human Rights Education has developed various educational and training resources with a special focus on young people.

COMPASS, the manual on HRE with young people, has been designed as the main tool for Human Rights Education. COMPASS indicates and suggests different ways and directions for HRE in formal and non-formal educational settings.

The manual allows users to take full advantage of the possibilities offered by information technology today, namely allowing for links to be created across chapters, activities and the different tools.

COMPASS is available online in english, french, russian, arabic
