PRESENTATION

IGLYO has long been focusing on dialogue with faith-based communities as a way to end discrimination against LGBTQ young people. Our joint report on social exclusion with ILGA-Europe showed that religious communities are one of the main sources of discrimination. And what about believers whose own sexual orientation and/or gender identity appear to be incompatible with their faith?

The aim of this exciting study session is to provide the basis for the exchange of knowledge, skills and good practices on how to connect and exchange constructively with faith-related worldviews*.

What are the common issues faced in LGBTQ and faith-based communities? How can we acknowledge the diversity of LGBTQ and faith-related worldviews, and foster mutual understanding and dialogue?

In a safe environment for LGBTQ activists, believers and non-believers, we aim to provide participants with the basic experience and skills to engage in faith-related exchange within a human rights framework. Among other things, the event will aim to enhance participants’ communication skills necessary for a constructive and respectful dialogue, as well as encourage ideas and projects that will follow-up on this issue.
------------------------------------------------------------------
* Faith-related worldviews: Individual or communitarian interpretations of the world, related to faith and/or religion, expressed by attitudes, values, concepts, practices, communities, institutions, etc.
